This course provides an introduction into the network management process, as it pertains to Link 16, JREAP, Link 22, and other tactical data links. The course will walk through the five phases of the network management, identifying specific requirements at each step for each data link. Students will gain an understanding of the responsibilities of the network planners, managers, and operators throughout the process, as well as identifying reference material that should be available to them; due to releasability requirements, we will discuss and review the documents, but they will not be provided to the students. Students will add their experience and knowledge to the training through group discussions throughout the training. At the end of the course, the students will have an understand of the requirements and process of planning, creating, operating, and managing a Multi-TDL Network.
This course is designed for a person who has experience in tactical data link operations who requires an understand of the planning and management process. As we will cover multiple data links, in-depth knowledge of all the data links is not required, but students should have a working knowledge of at least Link 16.
David MacDonald is a retired U.S. Marine MSgt with almost 40 years of data link experience. He spent 20 years in the U.S. Marine as a Tactical Air Defense Controller working data links including Links 1, 4, 11, 11B, 16, and ATDL-1. He retired in 2005 and became a JICO instructor at the Joint Interoperability Division, dealing primarily with training overseas military. In 2019 he joined Curtiss-Wright as a Field Engineer/Operations Support Specialist providing training and support for tactical data link systems.
